Androgynous fashion–A small discussion

Androgynous today, means that men and women have the same attitude towards what they want to wear.’ - Giorgio Armani
Androgynous fashion is the clothing practice based on the idea of Androgyny, which is basically the principle that says, masculinity and femininity are not rigid and opposing ways of being, but are fluid notions that one can be at the same time. So, in androgynous fashion, you can be feminine and masculine at the same time. These trends blur the stereotypical lines of clothing, set up for each gender role in ancient times.
The main point of androgynous fashion is not to prove that you are a man, or that you do not like being a woman as some may claim, but that there exist no such rigid dressing rules, based on your sex. At no level are you suppressing values which are called feminine, like grace or charm, but are in fact, adding more strength to them through your dressing line.
The Essentials: An androgynous fashion staple is the button-up shirt. You can accompany these with skinny jeans and flats. For long shirts, check out leggings. If you wish to dress up a little androgynously, then give your attire the company of a blazer and a dark red lipstick. In androgynous fashion, you choose clothing which you find comfortable and do not have to push to look feminine.
Formal androgynous clothing: If you have to go to a formal evening and wish to let your clothing speak for your androgyny, then don a two-piece suite. Dark colours have always ruled the land of smart androgynous fashion. Go for black! Not only does it stand for decisiveness, it also adds the tint of wittiness that people clamour to find in girly clothes!
Choosing the right colours: Do not select colours that are too bright or too soft. The colours which represent androgyny most, are navy blue, mustard yellows, red, and dark green.
Making your hair: A ponytail is a good way to start. If you want to walk an extra mile, slide some gel through your hair to give it a wet look. You can try out andro-haircuts too.
Androgynous shoes & accessories: The best representative of androgynous fashion in shoes, is loafers. You can also check out converse sneakers, or flats! Try and go in for one piece of jewellery, or pick up a simple leather bag. Metal watches are also worth considering here.
The main point of androgynous fashion is not to prove that you are a man, or that you do not like being a woman as some may claim, but that there exist no such rigid dressing rules, based on your sex. Before you begin to androgy-nify your clothing, remember the motto 'Simple and elegant'. This motto simply sums up the kind of dressing that androgynous fashion supports.
