My niece who is 12 years gets fits regularly. At that time her whole body shakes vigorously, she even passes urine. After that she sleeps and half an hour later she is alright. Is there any first aid that we could follow in her case each time, every time we go to doctor.

The following things should be kept in mind while tackling the children with fits:- 1. Do not try to restrain her. The muscular contractions are so strong during a fit that holding a person down may lead to broken bones. 2. Do not attempt to put anything in the mouth. 3. Make sure that she is protected from hitting herself on a bed or cot or wall. 4. When the convulsion is finished, check ABC, that is airway, breathing and circulation, and take action as appropriate. 5. Dress her in dry clothes and let her sleep. Call a doctor for advice. 6. She may have lost control of bowel or bladder function so cover her up and, when she is steady on her feet, help her to find somewhere to clean up. 7. She is likely to be very tired so, if possible, find her place somewhere to lie down and sleep. When to call an ambulance:- 1. The child is injured during the fit. 2. The fit lasts for longer than 3 minutes. 3. There are repeated fits in a short period of time. 4. The child does not regain consciousness
