Reduced secretion of thyroid hormone in infants can caused due to following factors: congenital absence of thyroid gland, disorder related to pituitary gland, problem related to thyroid gland and problems related to thyroid hormones. Severely low levels of thyroid hormones can result in retarded physical and mental growth.
