Is a special diet necessary for the lactating mother? Is there any kind food which should be avoided?

For a lactating mother healthy balanced diet is essential for her well being and her child's growth. This can include milk and milk product, vegetables and fruits, egg, fish, chicken, plenty of water. Very spicy, oily and fried food should be avoided. Food like pulses, peanuts, sago pills which suppose to cause gas should be avoided in the evening time. High calcium diet like banana, milk, sesame seeds, dates are highly recommended. Garlic, ginger, fenugreek seeds are preferred to add into diet as these helps to release gas and pain. Lactating woman is advised to have meals at regular interval of after every 3 to 4 hours should not stay hungry for long. Any medication without doctors advise, alcohol, smoking and too much caffeine should not consume.
